The Priory just a short drive from La Bastide de Gordes, nestled between a medieval castle and cypress trees, this fabulous 16th-century priory is one of the most remarkable Provence. Set in fully 40 acres of fenced gardens, meadows and parkland, it’s a place to escape and soak up the charms of the Provençal countryside.

Situated amongst the beautiful Luberon Mountains, this idyllic spot is steeped in history with palpable tales of peasantry to sixteenth century nobility.

There are fabulous views across the Luberon hills, and guests can spend hours wandering around the rambling gardens, complete with sculptures and an avenue of cypress trees. You can lounge around by the beautiful heated infinity pool, or enjoy Provençal cuisine on the idyllic outdoor dining area.

The two expansive living areas match beautiful antiques with contemporary comforts in fine style. A highlight is the stunning dining area with its piano, stone column, fireplace, and beamed ceiling. The spacious French Country kitchen is perfect for catering to large groups, (cook service is available at extra cost) and you’ll appreciate the air-conditioning in the heat of midsummer.

Each of the seven ensuite bedrooms has its own distinctive name. On the first (European) floor, there are two gorgeous suites with king-size beds in the west wing, named Queen Eleanor and Petracra, with Rapunzel’s Tower and the Jasmine Room in the north wing.

Up on the top level is Nanny’s Room with another king size bed, adjacent to the twin Le Petit Prince bedroom. Finally the Indian Summer Suite is a studio apartment with its own kitchenette and can be accessed by an external staircase.

The countryside around the Priory is truly la France profonde – the real France – with picture-perfect stone villages like nearby Fontaine-de-Vaucluse and Pernes-les-Fontaines, and the lavender fields of the Luberon all just a short drive away. The fascinating old city of Avignon is ideal for a day trip.
